The current evidence to in favor of smartphone apps to help people with psychosis stop smoking is limited. This is because of low quality of smartphone apps for smoking cessation that you may find on the Apple or Android stores. Many of these apps actually do not follow guidelines or national recommendations. Many of these apps are also complex to use and not easy to use. This is not to say apps cannot help with smoking cessation, but that you should consider them an extra tool and not the first line approach. New apps are always coming out – so it is possible in the future better apps for smoking cessation will become available.
To learn more about picking useful and safe apps, please see the SMI Adviser learning module on the topic. Beyond apps, there is also evidence that text messaging program can help with smoking cessation and you can try one here.
