There are no specific symptom severity restrictions or level of recovery requirements for you or your relative with SMI to participate in cognitive remediation training programs. In fact, cognitive remediation has been conducted in inpatient settings with individuals who are actively experiencing symptoms. Actually, cognitive remediation can provide a healthy distraction from your or your relative’s symptoms because a participant is required to focus on the cognitive tasks. However, in order to participate meaningfully, you or your relative would need to be cooperative with the training staff and be able to sit at the computer during the training sessions.
