Self-Management and Recovery Training (SMART) is an international non-profit organization that provides assistance to individuals working on recovery. The SMART approach is secular and scientifically-based, using cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and non-confrontational motivational methods. Participants learn tools for addiction recovery in a world-wide community that includes free, self-empowering, science-based mutual help groups. SMART Recovery sponsors face-to-face meetings around the world, and daily online meetings SMART Recovery presents itself as an alternative to Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) but it differs from AA by not encouraging individuals to admit powerlessness.
