The 2009 Schizophrenia PORT Psychopharmacological Treatment Recommendations and Summary Statement

This resource was selected by SMI Adviser content partners and approved by the SMI Adviser clinical expert team for inclusion in the knowledge base.

The Schizophrenia Patient Outcomes Research Team (PORT) psychopharmacological treatment recommendations provide a comprehensive summary of current evidence-based pharmacological treatment practices. There have been 2 previous sets of pharmacological treatment recommendations. These recommendations have served to guide the development of algorithms and guidelines for the treatment of schizophrenia. In the current PORT update, published studies were evaluated to determine whether the current PORT psychopharmacological treatment recommendations required revision and whether there was sufficient evidence to warrant new treatment recommendations for prespecified outcomes of interest.
