NASMHPD’s webinar on Components of Coordinated Specialty Care for First Episode Psychosis: Guidance Related to the 5% Set-Aside in the Mental Health Block Grant

This resource was selected by SMI Adviser content partners and approved by the SMI Adviser clinical expert team for inclusion in the knowledge base.

In its FY 2014 appropriation, SAMHSA was directed to require that states set aside 5 percent of their Mental Health Block Grant allocation to support “evidence-based programs that address the needs of individuals with early serious mental illness, including psychotic disorders.” SAMHSA provided the State Commissioners/Directors with information developed by NIMH about Coordinated Specialty Care (CSC) for First Episode Psychosis. This webinar was held to help states gain a clearer understanding of the components of CSC and how states might incorporate this recovery-oriented approach into their work.

The webinar includes:

  • Opening comments from SAMHSA;
  • A presentation on CSC by Robert K. Heinssen, Ph.D., ABPP; Director of the Division of Services and Intervention Research at NIMH; and
  • Examples from the states of New York and Maryland related to work done in those states to implement the CSC model.
